The natural health industry has been having reservations againts the microwave and mobile phones from the beginning. Recently the dangers of mobile phone use has become so public that Dr. Oz did a show calling out the danger of mobile phone use (think brain cancer) and I'm sure it's a matter of time before it's the same for microwave. Food TV Celebrity Chef Bobby Flay has given up the use of his microwave and has made it quite public why (as per the View show where he explains why he gave it up). All that a microwave oven does is it produces an electromagnetic field inside the oven. Because the water in the food acts like a dipole (this is due to the chemical structure of H20), the water interacts with the electromagnetic field causing the water to oscillate back and forth. Since the water is oscillating back and forth it is bumping into other molecules creating friction which causes the food to heat up. That is how food is cooked in a microwave.
