6 simple everyday tips to controlling your weight

The previous post was getting long so I decided to cut this in two parts. I know that there is soooooooooooooooooo much information out there on weight loss and STILL so many people are losing the battle when it comes to weight loss.
I could go into more complicated methods, but frankly simplicity trumps when it comes to losing weight, making better food decision, keeping the weight off for years to come and aging well.
If you’ve been dealing with weight issues your entire life and you’ve been on one yo-yo diet after another, I’d say that if you’ve not yet signed up to be part of our membership: Eat Smart Age Smart Insider, I’d encourage you to do it right now because you’ll find the free summary report we’re offering from Paul McKenna’s “I can make you thin” show in 2008 will help you a lot.
The bottom line is that losing weight and keeping a healthy weight at you age really boils down to a few simple truths:
1) If you eat less, you’ll weigh less: I’m not saying to cut out food, but I’m saying to cut out unnecessary empty calories and junk foods that do nothing for your body.
2) Mind your sugar intake: It’s true that you just might be one of those people who experiences hunger more acutely and it is very possible that you have more of an appetite than others, but that’s not a licence to stuff your face silly with pasta. You’ll want to still enjoy your favourite food in moderate quantities and replace bad habits with better food choices. This is not only for you to lose weight, but also for you to age well.
3) Cut out bad carbs: If I have to hear about another starlet who is on one of those no-carb diets, I’ll scream. Your body NEEDS good quality carbs and if you cut out carbs, you’re just setting yourself up for failure.
4) Be hardcore when it comes to exercising: I’m hardcore when it comes to my exercise and I know it. Every time I say, I’m going in for an easy workout, I leave the gym two hours later and barely able to walk. I like working out that way because it challenges me and I also see the results. I will sometimes walk for hours with friends, but for me that’s leisure … not a workout. If you are just starting to get back into shape, walking 30 minutes a day is an amazing strategy to get your body moving again and burning calories, but it will never give you a Madonna-body. If you want to Age Smart, you’ll need to watch what you eat AND step up your exercise regime with interval training and muscle confusion techniques.
5) Women NEED to build muscles: If I had a dollar for every woman who’s told me she doesn’t want to do weight training because she doesn’t want to become big and bulky I’d be as rich as Queen Oprah. It’s nonsense … women simply don’t have enough testosterone or muscles to every get big and beefy. Those big and beefy women you see who compete either spent an insane amount of time at the gym while eating a strict diet or they use muscle enhancers (aka steroids) to get to that point. The average woman who includes weight training in her weekly exercise regime will only end up losing weight more easily and keeping it off longer. Muscles burn fat even when you are at rest because weight training increases your metabolism … that’s good enough for me and that’s why I’ve been training hardcore for over a decade and there is nothing big and beefy about my body.
6) Not everyone was born a size 4: I know many women who train hardcore on a regular basis, but they are not petite women so they still have a good body even if they aren’t overweight. The idea here is to get to your ideal weight and have a health body … NOT to look like Victoria Beckham … not everyone was born to be that skinny … not even Victoria herself.
A last note, I’ve heard of a study that suggests that you can be “fat and fit” and fit people who are overweight can live just as long and successfully as thin people who aren’t fit. Perhaps, this is something I don’t understand yet, but how can you be both fat and fit? If you train on a regular base and you are still not losing the weight … I’d look at your diet to see if you are making good food choices and if you are not eating too much.

This article is educative. It reminded me that 6 tips, which i’ve known before but failed to apply it. At least now, I am more motivated to do so.
Thanks! You’re such a genius!

In terms of “no carbs”, that isn’t possible unless you don’t eat. But I don’t eat grains at all because I cant, but I do eat low-GI fruit and plenty of veggies cooked and raw every day. Maybe its because I have the tendency towards insulin resistance, but I cant eat a lot of carbs – even the “good” ones.
