Burger King Japan and the 7-patty Whopper burger?

7-patty-whopper-burger-japanI wish this was a bad joke, but alas it’s not.

I guess a regular whopper is not bad enough … since Japan’s Burger King restaurants put out a Whopper to end all Whoppers: the 7-patty Whopper burger.

The idea is to honour Microsoft’s new Windows 7 operating system, but honestly this is just setting a bad example when it comes to nutrition.

When you are going to a fast food restaurant to order a hamburger with 7 patties that’s 5.8 inches tall (14 cm) and you’re dropping $8.50 (777 Yen) for the honour, then you are just setting yourself up for a whopping heart attack.

Imagine that this monstrosity with its 791 grams of beef contains 2,120-2,500 calories which is equivalent to the daily recommended calorie intake for the average man at 2,500 (the average woman should consume about 2,000 calories a day)!

Indeed, this might have been a clever marketing and publicity idea and it has worked since so many media outlets are talking about it, but you’ve got to ask yourself how long will it take before some restaurant in America starts making the 7-patty hamburger a regular staple on their menu and you also have to wonder how long will it take for this to become a meal people actually look forward to eating?

As a healthy eating advocate, you can imagine that I would say that Burger King could have found another idea to honor the launch of Microsoft’s new Windows 7 operating system.

I’d love to know what you think of the 7-patty Whopper created by Burger King? You can leave your comments below!

>>>> I’ve included a few videos that highlights the ridiculousness of this promotion:

1) Burger King Whopper Windows 7 (for the love of God, the guys needs help with this 5.8 inch burger)

2) An American eats Burger King’s 7-patty Whopper (he actually eats a larger portion of this massive burger and his friend actually ate the entire burger … because all that meat is so dry both guys have used up 15-20 packets of ketchup)!!!

3) CNN sends a female reporter to try the 7-patty whopper (AND she actually eats it all!):

“How long before this becomes a staple in the American diet” is just a silly question to ask.

This is just a marketing stunt and something to ignore.

    In other words, lighten up.

    BM,

It might sound silly, but how many silly food ideas are keeping so many people trapped in an overweight body in America.

I’m sure there are restaurant chains right now trying to figure out how they can create their own version of this massive publicist coup.

You’ll see a verion of the 7-patty whopper near you soon!

Who cares if this is on menus in America? No one is forcing people to eat it. I will never eat it but America is about freedom and that includes the freedom to make a ridiculously large burger and the freedom to eat it. You can’t blame restaurants for fat people…blame the fat people. No one is forcing people to eat food like this everyday.

Hello I agree with some of the other comments this is a stunt, nobody would eat a 7 pattie burger in any regular instance. I understand the concern but people come on it’s just a stunt.

    Phrank,

Some people are just not able to know when to stop and that is the concern I have with this promotion.

Yup, it’s a promotion, but I just hope it stays to that and nothing more.

Thanks for jumping in the conversation.

    Vincent,

I hope you are wrong. I hope Japanese do remain as thin and healthy as they are now.

    Thanks for your input!

    JS,

I’ll tell ya, I had no idea this post would be read by so many people.

I guess in many ways, this Burger King 7-patty Whopper promotion has benefited Burger King, Japan, Microsoft and even Eat Smart Age Smart.

    Thanks for dropping by!

    Fat Bastard,

A quick trip to Japan before the promo ends will get you the 7-patty Whopper from Burger King!

If you get it, send us the link to a video showing you eating this massive hamburger.

From your lips (or keyboard) to the Universe’s ears and I hope this remains only a great publicity stunt that got the entire planet buzzing.

    Thanks for dropping by!

I am so sick and tired of all of the diet correctness people out there. They obviously do not have enough to manage in their own lives, so they go boldly out and tell others what they can and cannot eat. What is worse, they try to manipulate the laws of the land to cotrol what people eat. Frankly, I could not eat that thing if I wanted to. However, this is a free nation (at least at the moment), and if somebody wants to eat that, then go for it. If people like the author of this ‘article’ want to eat granola and wheat grass, (and look like the sick and emaciated souls that populate health food stores), then go for it. It is not any of my business. All I ask is that I am given the same courtesy to be able to eat what ever I want to without some Obamite trying to tax or outlaw it because it does not correspond with their ideas of what is healthy.

    Kitty 6,

I agree America and Canada are free nations and in such I can write what I want and I have the right to express my opinion.

Do you have to agree with me? Hell NO! That’s why it’s a free nation.

For your information and if you took time to read around the site, you’d know that I’m do eat and I do like meat.

I don’t eat granola (too much sugar) and wheat grass is not something I drink.

Love, you can eat whatever you want and I can write whatever I want on my site.

The right of expression goes both ways!

OH, honey, you need to look at my photo because there is nothing remotely “sick looking” about me.

I can cook chicken 1000 ways and I have yet to meet a steak frites (steak and slim fries) I’ve not liked.

The idea here is that I hope this 7-patty Whopper promotion remains only a promotion and doesn’t become something to achieve.

Thanks for dropping by and expressing your opinion!

    Kitty 6,

You might want to read this post where I make my point about the fact that meat is a good thing … as long as it’s not in ridiculous quantities:

    http://www.eatsmartagesmart.com/is-meat-good-or-bad-for-you/

No wheat grass or granola here … that said anyone who wants to have those two healthy foods in their diet are welcome to do so … as you said Love … it’s a free country!

  17. Jordan Says:
    October 28th, 2009 at 17:32

I’m sorry, but I just ate one of these…and it was the most delicious thing I have ever eaten. They will sell them here in America if you ask for it and it cost me about $9. If they decide to complain, simply state “This is Burger King where your slogan is HAVE IT YOUR WAY. Now MY WAY is a sever patty whopper. Hell, make it ten. Now what will that come to with a medium Dr. Pepper?

  18. Jordan Says:
    October 28th, 2009 at 17:36

Further, I’m not a fatass. I’m 5′9 and 150 lbs. If I had read the previous comments, I would have included a link to a video, but I’m sure you can find one on YouTube or something.

  19. Eat Smart Age Smart Says:
    October 28th, 2009 at 21:49

    Jordan,

    WOW! I mean WOW!

I cannot believe this post has reached someone who ate the burger.

Listen, there’s not much for me to say, but I’ve got to say that it’s insane that my post would get you to come and post a message and that you actually ate one of those 7-patty whoppers from Burger King in Japan.

    This is insane.

Thanks for dropping by and YES a video or photos would have been great because I would have loved to do a part 2 of this post.

  20. Jordan Says:
    October 29th, 2009 at 9:29

I didn’t even eat it in Japan…I got it from a BK in Waterville Maine and if you decide you want to try it, just go to your local Burger King and ASK for one. And if you can’t eat the whole thing, at least you gave it a shot. Trust me, it’s worth it, especially if you get a slice of cheese between every patty.

  21. Eat Smart Age Smart Says:
    October 29th, 2009 at 9:37

    Jordan,

It’s interesting that the U.S. is not promoting it more since you were able to eat it in Maine.

In the second video I’ve posted with this post, you see two guys eating the 7 patty whopper, but using 10 packets of ketchup because they said the meat was dry.

    Did you find that?

So did you have the Burger King 7-patty whopper with fries and a soda AND did you have dinner that night?

  22. Roll-ZLX Says:
    October 29th, 2009 at 11:28

Oh my word! I’m vegan myself, and I thought 3 patties was future death between a bun! This is really a sad testament to how non-health conscious the world is. On a side note, I’m glad I’m a Mac user.

  23. Jordan Says:
    October 29th, 2009 at 12:52

No, I did not have dinner that night, nor did I have fries, I was too stuffed from the burger, but I did manage to drink my medium Dr. Pepper. And as for the meat…it was greasy as hell, far from dry and I kept having to wipe the grease off my elbow I imagine the slice of cheese between every patty didn’t help much with the grease situation. By the time I got the burger home, the bottom of the bag was saturated with grease from the monstrosity inside.
And as I said before, you can probably eat it at any Burger King you chose to because well, they say “Have it your way” and you’re paying for all of the extra patties. I’m sure that you could even get a Big-Mac version from McDonalds if you wish.

  24. Eat Smart Age Smart Says:
    October 29th, 2009 at 16:44

Roll-ZLX – I’m not a vegetarian and I’m meat eater and this is just way more than I can manage.

I do understand the point of view of many commenters who have asked me to chill out because this 7-patty whopper from Burger King Japan thing is nothing more than a publicity ploy and to a certain level I agree, but a part of me still feel we’ll be seing a whole lot more of this type of huge burger.

If you read the conversation between Jordan (from Maine) and myself you can see that the 7-patty Whopper is actually available on U.S. soil and Americans can also eat this big 7 patty whopper.

    Thanks for dropping by.

  25. Eat Smart Age Smart Says:
    October 29th, 2009 at 16:54

    Jordan,

Yikes: “By the time I got the burger home, the bottom of the bag was saturated with grease from the monstrosity inside.”

I hope you won’t eat too many of these 7-patty whoppers in the future.

I can imagine that you were not hungry at all after eating that huge burger.

Listen, I wouldn’t eat that much meat in one sitting because I’d never be able to digest it at all.

Thanks so much for being willing to share your experience.

  26. Eat Smart Age Smart Says:

    Jordan,

Your point about McDonalds perhaps launching their own 7-patty Big Mac burger is interesting and I look forward to seeing which other companies or fast food chains huge these types of huge size meals to get tones of publicity.

I will surely be reporting and highlighting these types of massive meals.

LOL! To each his own! This is like a pie eating contest or seeing how many hot dogs you can eat in one minute. Amusing to watch, sort of. Nothing I would ever do. People enjoy different things. One man’s meat is another man’s poison. People are free to support or sabotage their health. I’ve eaten too much, drunk too much, and lived to regret it. That’s how I learn. One slice of beef will do me just fine, thank you very much. I hope there’s no correlation between bad food and bad operating systems…in computers, I mean. Thanks for bringing this story to so many people’s attention!

  28. Jordan Says:
    November 1st, 2009 at 10:48

haha no, I don’t plan on eating many of these in the future, I just decided to try it that once and I’m glad I did because one giant burger isn’t going to kill me, I’m a healthy 20 year old guy.
Further, the burger is not on the menu, it seems we have a little bit of a miscommunication here. I was charged for a whopper, and then the extra patties and they told the burger dudes what to do, it was a special order and once again, most any BK, McDonald’s, or any other fast food joint will make special orders for you, so if you decide you want 6 or even 10 extra patties in your big mac or whopper, the 17 year old guys working the grill will usually be more than happy to make it and will probably make it damn good because they like the idea of it, provided you don’t get too particular with your order and you come during a slow hour. I know a couple people that work at the Burger King that I got my seven patty whopper from and I later heard that they were happy as hell to get an order like mine, I knew damn well to come there while business was slow because it would have been the exact opposite if I decided to order my burger during a rush.

  29. Jordan Says:
    November 1st, 2009 at 10:55

I don’t think this would cause much of a problem in our society if it was placed on the menu, either. A lot of people would regard it as a waste of money, too much for them to eat, etc. A lot of young people would try it and some might decide to eat it more than once, but most people know exactly how terrible it is for them and he people who really don’t care will be the ones who would continue to buy it. Most of those people are probably already obese or working their way there, so if they decide they want to live their life in that manner, they should be able to eat seven patty whoppers all day.

  30. Pizza Bagels 4lyfe Says:
    November 10th, 2009 at 15:51

Are you guys serious? It’s a big burger, and you’re worried that someone’s going to incorporate it into their menu?

There are thousands of places all over the US that serve gargantuan hamburgers, and a lot of them dwarf that one.

Not to belittle (if possible) the consequences of eating something like this even once, let alone regularly, but things like this are hardly new. It is most assuredly NOT the most extreme case of it.

And besides, even if they weren’t doing the promotion, there’d still be some guy with an insatiable appetite scarfing down seven individual whoppers.
