Women & Eating Issues
What does anorexia looks like as you age?
There is no doubt that when it comes to eating issues, most people think of obesity as being the most pressing health issue in America. I mean the cost of obesity on the American health care system is as heavy as an elephant sitting on a twig!
That is actually quite accurate because you just need to land in any American city to see how obese people are – to this day, I’m always taken aback when I land in a U.S. airport to see how many people are carrying extra weight.
On the other side of the pendulum, you have another eating disorder (because, oh yes, obesity IS surely an eating disorder) where girls and women try to fully control the one aspect of their lives where they feel they actually have control.
It’s an illusion really, but that’s often how the anorexic mind thinks.

6 Steps to feel sexy in your body!
A guest post by Sarah Maria Love Your Body, Love Your Life: 5 Steps to End Negative Body Obsession and Start Living Happily and Confidently
> When you look in the mirror, are you amazed by what you see?
> Are you smitten with your sexy body?
> Are you stunned by your own magnificence?
> Or do you look in the mirror and lament the size of your thighs?
> Grimace at the wrinkles appearing around your eyes?
> Agonize over that roll of belly fat that refuses to retreat, despite endless crunches and trips to the gym?
If you are like the vast majority of women, and a growing number of men, you answer “yes” to the latter questions far too often.
Statistics confirm that many people have a critical and harsh relationship with their bodies. They suffer from Negative Body Obsession, a condition marked by the near-constant and critical rumination about one’s physical appearance.
Whether you are a woman going through menopause, an adolescent in the midst of puberty, or a man slowly losing his once thick head of hair, it seems that no one is immune from these negative body thoughts.
Look at these startling numbers:
* Between 1997 and 2007, cosmetic surgery increased by 457 percent.
* By 2015, 17 percent of U.S. residents will receive cosmetic surgery, totaling 55 million procedures – almost one procedure for every five Americans.
* Approximately eight million Americans have an eating disorder.
* One in 200 American women suffers from anorexia.

Overeat and your brain will want more!

I was not at all surprised to read that overeating actually stimulates a metabolic response in your brain that induces cravings and forces you to eat more and more and more.
It’s like a vicious cycle that you cannot break because when you are overeating and continuously craving more food (so you are overeating to compensate for the need to overeat) you are increasing your chances of obesity, diabetes and insulin resistance!
I could give you a basic explanation of how this works, but I thought I’d let an expert who understands the biology behind this phenomenon explain it in clear terms.

If you’re skinny, you’ll be happy!

***Dr. John Berardi shares 7 myths that are holding you back from reaching a healthy weight***
Ever since I discovered Dr. John Berardi’s approach to nutrition and fitness, I’ve been hooked. Most of what he teaches fall in line with the way I’ve approached food, nutrition, diet and fitness for the past decade.
I might not be a trained chef (I was a personal chef and I helped people eat better quality foods), I might not have a degree in nutrition (I spend most of my free time reading and learning about better ways to age well), I might not be a celebrity trainer (I’ve taught myself how to train properly to have a strong and fit body as I age) and I’m surely not a guess speaker on any morning TV show, but I can tell you that learning how to properly eat and stay fit over the past 10 years has put me in a position where it’s much easier for me to quickly assess those so-called experts who know what they’re talking about and those who are blowing hot air.

Would you starve yourself in order NOT to look like your body was aging?
I was floored (FLOORED) when I read this story.
I mean, I’m willing to go far to look as good as I can as I age, but I’d never dream of starving myself so my body would look decades younger. Let me explain myself, I strongly believe in eating good quality foods and exercising and adopting healthy lifestyle choices, but under eating is not an option in my world.
It’s obvious that having a healthy body weight as you age will serve you better than being overweight or having eating problems.
I know that anorexia is often linked to the desire of many women to feel that there is something in your life they control … in this case their weight, what they eat, what they don’t eat, the quantities of food they eat and if they choose to purge the food they’ve consumed by visiting the toilet to throw up, but I had never (EVER) heard of grown women who are so terrified of growing up and who purposely underfeed themselves to keep the body of a tween!
