Oh my, the stock markets are acting up again and it’s almost a flashback to October 2008.
There are so many people who are still looking for work and they are trying to juggle a lot of things with limited means. Not having a job, seeing the value of your home decline, becoming a one-salary household and having to watch your retirement fund melt away is quite taxing (pun intended) on the body.
Stress is one sure way to put on weight because food is an emotional outlet for so many people.
That said, if you chose different types of foods (instead of the fatty-greasy foods), you’ll quickly find out that there are actually a handful of foods that can help reduce stress (and help you stay trim, too).
I don’t think that these foods will turn your current financial situation around, but they will help support your health as you are trying to cope with life’s reality.

When I was still married, my Parisian-ex-husband and I loved to make pizza from scratch at home. I mean even the dough and the sauce were made from scratch.
I would take care of preparing the sauce and selecting and preparing the toppings, but he was the expert pizza dough maker.
I remember how much care and attention he used to place in preparing his dough.
Since my divorce, I still eat homemade pizza, but I buy the dough instead of making it myself because it’s a bit faster for those nights where I’m pressed for time.
Now, don’t get me wrong, there are still Italian restaurants in my city that make pizzas that are mouthwatering delicious they make your eyes swell with tears of joy and when I have a huge craving for an oven baked thin crust pizza, I can head to one of the favourite spots: Bar Mercurio, Terroni or Ferro!
My favourite part of eating pizza at an Italian restaurant, other than eating a fresh and crunchy Italian tradition, is to top my pizza off with hot chili oil or very hot peppers like they offer at Terroni and Ferro!

I’m sure you must have a few restaurants in your city that make incredible thin crust Italian pizzas. I personally have never liked thick dough pizzas topped with heavy sauce and covered with mountains of cheese. Way back I used to work at one of the luxury department stores and when they used to have us stay for yearly inventory counts, they would order those pizzas. I ate because I needed to fill my stomach, but I never really enjoyed them at all. I even blotted some of the excessive oils from those pizzas with paper before eating them because there was soooooooooooo much cheese.

On Monday, January 4th, 2010, Dr. Oz kicked off the New Year with a room filled with 200 people wanting to lose weight in the New Year (does this sound familiar?).
It was an interesting show and I always like it when Dr. Oz includes his partners Dr. Roizen.
Yesterday’s ‘The 14-day You Diet’ was filled with loads of information to help a lot of people struggling with their weight get themselves on the right path.
There was a lot of information to digest in Dr. Oz’s show, but I think that one of the segments was a quick-start that anyone can start applying today to start seeing some serious changes in their diet, weight and overall health in a short period of time.
Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen helped Alyssa and Gerard understand how to become better food shoppers. Alyssa is 45 and a nurse and a new mom, while Gerard is 55 and a doctor and he also happens to have had a heart attack one year ago. Despite the new baby (at a late age) and the heart attack both Alyssa and Gerard depend on the convenience of fast food, frozen foods and take-away/take-out food to help them with the weekly meal planning.

It’s true that 90% of the North American population must be on some sort of diet or weight loss program by now and I’m sure that the sales of salad and vegetables are at an all-year high.
It’s also true that many people are starting to feel the pain of holiday shopping. After the holidays so many of us receive our December statements and hesitantly open the envelope to see these huge numbers looking at us. I’m sure you must have the same reaction I do and you must always wonder how it is possible that you could have spent so much money in only a few weeks. Once the shock of holiday shopping has calmed down and you realize it will take more than a few weeks to lose all that weight you’ve put on over the holidays, you’ll most likely realize that as some point in the near future you’d still like to go out for dinner once in a while.
It’s true that a lot of people are going to pack a lunch in the hopes of cutting back on their food spending and some might consider fast food restaurants (and I’m referring to both sit-down fast food restaurants and those take-away/take-out ones) as a great way to “eat out” without spending too much money. Since I don’t eat at fast food restaurants, I’ll usually save my dining-out budget for restaurants that leave a memorable impression.
Now, a local eatery such as a local bistro will NEVER be as cheap as a fast food restaurant but you won’t spend nearly as much as higher end restaurant and you’ll end up with a delicious meal at a great price.
Local eateries use fresh ingredients in the preparation of their meal something you won’t see in fast food joints and local eateries actually employ chefs that have a sense of consciousness when it comes to the food they prepare and serve.
I was really not in the mood to cook the other night so I decided to head to a local eatery called Le Gourmand to taste their new food concept.
