Workout DVD to get you in shape at home

workout_dvd

All right, so I won’t hide the fact that I really love working out at the gym because it gives me a chance to leave my home. Working at home can be rewarding, but you feel stuck in a box some days.

Now, I know that for busy moms with busy lives, making the time to drive to a gym, find parking, pay for parking, get into your workout clothes, do an hour workout, drive back home, take care of the family, get dinner ready and then take care of household chores is just too much to ask.

That’s why I’m such a HUGE fan of fitness DVDs for people who want to get into shape and who just cannot find the time to get to a gym. People make a huge deal of the latest and greatest fitness trend as life changer and THE all time best way of losing weight, but the reality is quite simple – if you start moving and sweating you’ll burn calories. That means that when you do intensive exercises (regardless of which one), you’ll burn fat, you’ll lose weight and you’ll lose belly fat!

That said, I’ve found a few DVD that will get you moving and get you to take real action if your goal for 2010 is to become healthier and fit.

OK, so it’s February and if you’re like most people, guess what has happened to your well-intentioned New Year’s resolutions?

They’ve disappeared into the dark valley of shame, regret, and discouragement.

Hey, I’m not any pinnacle of virtue either, that’s for sure.

But I really do not like feeling like yet another statistic when it comes to making lasting and positive changes in life.

That’s why when I previewed this, I immediately wanted to tell you all about it too, because this IS the answer!

Forget resolutions and do THIS instead!

Fitness boxing for women interview

fitness-boxing-Cheryl-that-girl-is-funny-2

Fitness boxing is one of my all time favourite fitness activities and having the pleasure to talk to another woman who likes it as much as I do is simply mind blowing to me.

Fitness boxing has transformed the way I workout and the way I feel about my body and I had met up to now few women willing to put on gloves and bang on those bags.

Fitness boxing is only one of the many sports Cheryl from ThatGilrisFunny.com practices on a weekly base and I truly hope you’ll take the time to listen to this 40 minutes podcast.

Not only is Cheryl officially my first podcast guest on Eat Smart Age Smart, but the conversation with her was incredibly inspiring and I hope something she shares will inspire you to also go out and discover a fitness activity that rocks your world.

Once you’ve listened to this podcast you REALLY understand why age is nothing but a number!

10 reasons why I workout regularly

why-I-workout-regularly

As much as I’d be willing to give up an organ before having to give up working out, I wasn’t always all that keen on exercising.

In fact, the first few times I started exercising, I hated it. I detested the whole idea of having to sweat so much and then spend the next two days in pain.

I truly didn’t start enjoying fitness and exercise until 2000. That’s when I got laid off from a corporate job and found myself with about 25 lbs extra from all that office food that is everywhere (you know what I’m talking about: huge muffins for morning meetings, catered lunches, candy/chocolate at every desk, Beth’s homemade peanut butter cookies that she brings in every Friday and all those cakes for birthdays).

Nike Lunarglide shoes are the lightest EVER!

Nike_Lunarglide_shoes

I’ve been wearing Nike trainers for years (I mean years) now because they are the rare shoes that fit my foot.

I have a narrow foot and shoes like New Balance just never seem to work.

That said, I have discovered some pretty sweet Reeboks that I absolutely love wearing.

In fact, I had written a review on my sexy new Reebok shoes and you can read it here if you’ve missed it: Reebok Fitness Fashion is killer

Saltare on American Best Dance Crew

americas-best-dance-crew-saltare

Saltare on American Best Dance Crew brought skipping rope to a whole new level!

I’ll admit to being a tab bit old to watch American Best Dance Crew (I’m not quite their target audience), but I cannot help it because I just love the show so much!

On Season 5 east regional qualifications there was a group that is not only dancing to serious hip hop music, but they are dancing while skipping rope (this you had to see).

The entire group is made of international jump ropers and they are now including some serious dance moves. Most of these kids have been skipping rope on a professional level for 10 years!

Hula hoop is the new fitness craze for 2010

Hula-hoopOh yes, I’m talking about the hula hoop … the same kind of hula hoop you used to do for hours on end when you were a kid. And yes, the hula hoop is making a serious comeback as a fitness alternative for many people.

I could hula forever when I was a kid, but when I tried it again last year as fitness alternative I found it quite more challenging as an adult than I remembered it to be when I was a kid.

A brilliant American company created the Hoopnotica Fitness Travel Hoop Combo hoop and they’ve literally created a new craze for something that was once associated with a childhood activity.

You see, most of the hula hoops you’ll buy in stores like Wal-Mart are made for kids and the ring size is small. Hoopnotica has designed adult size hoops and people all over America have been hooping.

Arm workout to eliminate arm fat!

arm-fat-tricep-exercises

Most women HATE their arms!

A lot of women get to a point in their lives where they simply refuse to expose their arms because of the excess fat and lack of muscular definition.

I’ve made it a point in my workouts to focus on the arms because I really want to age and still have firm arms. I don’t think it’s possible at all without weight training.

Heck, I want to be able to carry my grocery shopping bags packed with healthy foods on my own at 90!

There are specific exercises for the triceps and biceps that really make a difference over time.

I don’t lift more than 10-12 lbs, but between free weights and resistance cables, I have to say that I’m quite proud of the way my arms look.

Ladies, getting older doesn’t automatically mean having flabby arms!
