Fitness boxing for women interview

fitness-boxing-Cheryl-that-girl-is-funny-2

Fitness boxing is one of my all time favourite fitness activities and having the pleasure to talk to another woman who likes it as much as I do is simply mind blowing to me.

Fitness boxing has transformed the way I workout and the way I feel about my body and I had met up to now few women willing to put on gloves and bang on those bags.

Fitness boxing is only one of the many sports Cheryl from ThatGilrisFunny.com practices on a weekly base and I truly hope you’ll take the time to listen to this 40 minutes podcast.

Not only is Cheryl officially my first podcast guest on Eat Smart Age Smart, but the conversation with her was incredibly inspiring and I hope something she shares will inspire you to also go out and discover a fitness activity that rocks your world.

Once you’ve listened to this podcast you REALLY understand why age is nothing but a number!

10 reasons why I workout regularly

why-I-workout-regularly

As much as I’d be willing to give up an organ before having to give up working out, I wasn’t always all that keen on exercising.

In fact, the first few times I started exercising, I hated it. I detested the whole idea of having to sweat so much and then spend the next two days in pain.

I truly didn’t start enjoying fitness and exercise until 2000. That’s when I got laid off from a corporate job and found myself with about 25 lbs extra from all that office food that is everywhere (you know what I’m talking about: huge muffins for morning meetings, catered lunches, candy/chocolate at every desk, Beth’s homemade peanut butter cookies that she brings in every Friday and all those cakes for birthdays).

Hula hoop is the new fitness craze for 2010

Hula-hoopOh yes, I’m talking about the hula hoop … the same kind of hula hoop you used to do for hours on end when you were a kid. And yes, the hula hoop is making a serious comeback as a fitness alternative for many people.

I could hula forever when I was a kid, but when I tried it again last year as fitness alternative I found it quite more challenging as an adult than I remembered it to be when I was a kid.

A brilliant American company created the Hoopnotica Fitness Travel Hoop Combo hoop and they’ve literally created a new craze for something that was once associated with a childhood activity.

You see, most of the hula hoops you’ll buy in stores like Wal-Mart are made for kids and the ring size is small. Hoopnotica has designed adult size hoops and people all over America have been hooping.

Simple tips for losing weight and keeping it off

losing_weight_keeping_it_off

Have you ever wondered why you are not losing any weight even though you’re putting in all this effort?

Whenever I need to lose weight because I have been a little bit more indulgent in my diet and not gone to the gym as often as I should, I always follow the same technique:

* I do a cleanse either with detox pill supplements, or, if my short-term lifestyle can handle it, a juice cleanse for about 10 days.

* I cut back on some of the cheat foods I’ve been over-indulging in.

* I take assessment of my portions.

* I make sure I’m at the gym four times per week (when I gain weight, it’s usually because I’m eating more than I should and have reduced my fitness activities to twice per week).

* I also make a point of walking as much as I can instead of taking public transportation.

My formula for trimming down is pretty simple and it’s worked for me for years now. I never take any drastic measures and I never, ever follow questionable quick weight-loss techniques that only result in you gaining more weight and getting caught in a never-ending cycle of weight-gain-weight-loss-weight-gain.

Review: TRX Suspension training is VERY intensive!

I first discovered TRX Suspension training in spring of this year while surfing on YouTube, and thought to myself that it looked really cool. At first glance, it looked like a different way of working out and a different way of engaging your muscles by using large training straps.

When I saw the TRX Suspension training video, my gym was undergoing renovations and I was working out at another place. Not long after seeing the video, I noticed a couple of the trainers at the gym where I was working out were using the same yellow suspension straps with their clients. Interestingly enough, the two trainers who were using the straps were instructors whose classes I had attended and gotten an incredibly challenging workout.

Video Review: Smart Gym

This is a really brilliant fitness concept! If you are familiar with the elastic bands that are used for fitness more and more often now in gyms, you’ll really want to learn more about Smart Gym™.

Many personal trainers have been using these fitness elastic bands as portable devices that mimic the cable machines you find at most gyms, but the Smart Gym takes things to a whole different level.

If you travel a lot on business and you want to stay fit while on the go, take a few minutes to check out my review of the Smart Gym!

>>> What the heck is the Smart Gym?

Before delving into my video review straight away, I recognise that a number of readers might have never heard of the Smart Gym before so I wanted to spend a bit of time going over what I consider “THE must-have exercise product for travellers and people looking for alternatives when working out indoors or at home”.

Can you stay thin if you exercise but don’t watch what you eat?

exercise_to_stay_thin

You already know what I’m going to say: NO!

A recent article in Newsweek should go a long way towards shedding some light on the relation between exercise and diet when it comes to weight loss.

I’m always baffled when I listen to people complaining that they are exercising regularly and they’re not dropping any weight.

Recently, I had a conversation with a woman at a product launch event and she seemed to sit at a size 16 or 18. When I told her a little bit more about my profession, she explained that she ran twice a week and did boxing classes four times per week. I quickly calculated that this woman was exercising six times per week, yet, she was telling me that she didn’t seem to be losing any weight and she didn’t know why. I quickly glanced at her plate that was filled with fatty cheese and thought to myself that I LOVE cheese, but would not pile up that amount on a small bread plate at an event or at home.

I’ve experienced this myself. When I first started lifting weights more seriously many years ago, I thought to myself that I needed to eat much more since I was exercising more therefore burning more calories. I ended up allowing myself to eat whatever because I had that comfortable excuse that I’d end up burning it in the end.
