I love brunch. I really LOVE brunch!

It’s the perfect meal of the week because it happens on weekends and it’s a great opportunity to catch up with friends.

Don’t you feel that when you make plans to have lunch with a friend that on Thursday you start getting excited because a) you don’t have to work on weekends 2) brunch means that you can have a breakfast-type meal in the afternoon!

I think we all have our favourite brunch places and we just keep going back to them over and over again. I’ve tried so many restaurants that serve brunch, but I have two or three that are my absolute favourites and I never get tired of going back to them.

Brunch is synonymous with a social activity that is unparalleled: meeting friends on the weekend over a casual meal!

Some of the most popular brunch dishes are made with eggs, but crepes (French style pancakes), American pancakes and waffles are also quite popular brunch options.

Brunch can certainly be a healthy affair because you are the one who has the final say on what you order, but since this is a once-a-week activity and most people go for brunch once or twice in a month … I’d say that brunch is a good time to indulge in a few cheat-eats!

As I said in the title, I’m so enamoured with brunch that I decided to look up its origins! Check out what I found about brunch!

Food Fact about brunch:

Brunch is a combination of breakfast and lunch, usually eaten sometime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekends. The Sunday brunch has become quite popular both for home entertaining and as a social gathering at restaurants.

The term “brunch” was invented in the late 19th century. The meal grew in popularity in the 1930s, particularly in the U.S., where it was popular at weekend parties and became a feature of hotel menus. Though brunch is thought of as an American tradition, H. L. Mencken tells us that it was popular in England around 1900.

Here’s another fund fact I got from BBC Food: “another hybrid that preceded brunch was ‘nuncheon’, or ‘noon drink’, which consisted of ale and bread”.
