Ladies and Gentlemen this IS motivation for weight loss!!!
Have you seen this body scan of a 250 lbs woman versus a 120 lbs woman?
The difference is simply shocking.
When you look at the two scans you quickly see the following on the scan of the overweight woman:

Ladies and Gentlemen this IS motivation for weight loss!!!

Have you seen this body scan of a 250 lbs woman versus a 120 lbs woman?

The difference is simply shocking.

When you look at the two scans you quickly see the following on the scan of the overweight woman:

> Her stomach is much larger

> Her head is larger

> Her shoulders are really wide

> She’s essentially twice the size of the 120 lbs woman

> Her hips are much wider apart (which explains why overweight women have a lot of difficulty walking)

> Look at the spine at the back of her head!

> Look at how far apart her feet are due to the weight around her tights and knees

> Her ankles are bent (which could be due to the extra weight)

If you’re looking for motivation to lose weight … I’d say this is a really good reason to start taking healthy eating and adopting a healthy lifestyle (aka exercise regularly) VERY seriously!

By the way, this story is running wild on the net and it’s another reminder that being overweight is not that healthy!

>>> I’d love to hear from you on this one. What do you think about the two scans?

Imagine what happens if you are obese AND you are a smoker?

I’ve personally known Jonny Bowden since 2006 and I’ve always been very impressed with his approach to health and I always look forward to what he has to say and what I can learn from him.

It’s no surprise that at this time of the year a lot of people are trying to either lose weight, get fit or quit smoking.

Those are traditional New Year resolutions that usually quietly die by Valentine’s Day.

If you’ve watched the latest “The Biggest Loser” season 8 series, you’ll know that losing weight is becoming less and less of an option (it’s darn right mandatory) for a lot of people who are tipping the scale at more than 400 lbs.

I mean Danny, the winner of “The Biggest Loser” season 8 series, managed to lose 239 lbs (from 430 lbs and now weighing 191 lbs) and in the process was able to sleep in the same bed as his wife after suffering from sleep apnea for eight long years and having to sleep on a reclining chair in his living room!!!

>>> Here’s Danny, the winner of “The Biggest Loser” season 8 series

I think that most people should not have “losing weight” as a New Year resolution, but it should be a life or death decision … because unfortunately it’s becoming just that for soooooooooooo many Americans.

I’ve had a few posts in the past on the urgency to take control of the major obesity problem in North America, but Jonny Bowden has been attacking the problem head-on for a long time now.

>>> In fact if you haven’t yet, I encourage you to read one of the most-read articles on this site: Overeat and your brain will want more!

He recently wrote an article based on new findings from the New England Journal of Medicine where it’s become quite clear that the obesity problem in America is at alarming rates since it’s now official that obesity WILL kill you faster than smoking!

As I ask in the opening of this article, imagine if you are obese and smoke. I’ve seen it with my own two eyes and Dr. Oz and his team are now working with Steve, dubbed the “Unhealthiest Person in America” who is scarily overweight and has an addiction to nicotine (he’s a heavy smoker).

>>> If you missed that episode on Dr. Oz, here’s a quick video summary:

>>> Here’s Jonny Bowden’s explanation as to why obesity will kill you faster than smoking:

The New England Journal of Medicine did some fancy statistical footwork and looked at how many years the average person is likely to gain in life expectancy from declining smoking rates. They then plugged in average years lost from rising obesity rates.

For the first time ever, obesity won and now presents a greater threat to life expectancy in America than smoking does.

Let’s say obesity and smoking rates had held steady. In that case, an average 18-year-old would expect to gain about 2.98 years in life expectancy over a 15-year period, largely due to a 20% reduction in smoking over the past 15 years.

But a 48% increase in obesity wiped that out. Instead of an increase of almost 3 extra years of life, the average 18-year-old can expect less than a year.

So it’s not that life expectancy is expected to fall. It’s still rising. But it’s rising only a fraction of what it would have if it weren’t for obesity.

“We know that the effects of obesity are not quite as intense as the effects of smoking, but obesity is more widespread,” said Susan T. Stewart, PhD, of Harvard. “It was a little discouraging to see that obesity was winning.”

There’s been about a 1.4% decrease in smoking rates per year in the 15 years prior to 2005. But trends show that from 1971-2006 there’s been an average 0.5% increase per year in Body Mass Index.

Assuming trends continue, 21% of current smokers are expected to quit by 2020.

Unfortunately, the number of “normal weight” Americans is expected to drop by 35% during the same time frame. By 2020, a whopping 45% of Americans are expected to be clinically obese.

Bottom line: the effects of obesity now exceed the effects of smoking on life expectancy.

The researchers cautioned that these kinds of “population-type forecasts” don’t apply at the individual level to people who quit smoking or lose weight.

Do both, and you can really reduce the likelihood of being a medical statistic.

>>> More about Dr. Jonny Bowden:

As a grocery shopping pro, I strongly believe that if people bought better foods, they automatically eat better, feel better and lose weight effortlessly.

I guess, I must be living on a different planet all together because when I saw the list of top 10 best-selling foods in America, I fully understood how critical the obesity issue is in North America.

This list was compiled by Information Resources, which is a Chicago-based marketing information service firm and it was published in the Chicago Tribune in October. During a recent browsing session I found the list and I thought I’d add my two cents worth of feedback.

Here is the list of top 10 best-selling foods in America ending June 14, 2009:

1. Carbonated beverages ($12 billion in sales)

Krizia’s point of view: In other words, American spent 12 billion dollars on pop-sugary-drinks! OMG!!! That is an insane amount of money to get fat.

I’ve written a number of posts on soft drink consumption in North America and you can catch them here if you’ve missed them:

1) Can soda drinks age your teeth?

2) No Coke Zero in Venezuela!

3) Can too much soda paralyze you?

2. Milk ($11.2 billion)

Krizia’s point of view: It’s not clear if this is whole milk or 1% milk and it’s also not clear if this includes sales of organic milk. That said, if this number reflects the sales of conventional milk, then that means there is a lot of people consuming a beverage that is known to contain high levels of added hormones.

3. Fresh bread & rolls ($9.57 billion)

Krizia’s point of view: I really doubt this represents the sale of organic bread. This number most likely represents the sale of commercial breads and those breads are baked on the premise at most grocery stores … which in my opinion are low-quality breads made with refined white flour and list of ingredients that don’t need to be in bread.

4. Beer/ale/hard cider ($8.17 billion)

Krizia’s point of view: There is nothing wrong with a little beer or ale, but when you combine these numbers with the first three top purchases in America, you can quickly see how the pounds are adding up.

5. Salty snacks ($8.09 billion)

Krizia’s point of view: This is a simple category to figure out because we’re talking about chips, popcorn, pretzels and the like. All of which are packed with salt and hydrogenated fat unless you buy those salty snacks at the natural healthy food shops or at the natural health section of your grocery store. The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite book expose America’s addiction to fat, salt and sugar!

6. Natural cheese ($7.64 billion)

Krizia’s point of view: I buy cheese from a cheesemonger because it’s much cheaper than buying cheese at the grocery store and I get a better variety. If I do buy cheese at a grocery store because I’m stuck, I can assure you that I’m quite careful with the list of ingredients because some of those packaged cheeses prepared by the big food manufacturers are so engineered there is not much that resembles cheese. You won’t hear me advocate solely eating organic cheese because it’s not possible for everyone and I’ve yet to taste a good organic brie or camembert. All that to say that certain types of cheeses are not made from organic milk. There are a lot of “cheese products” (which are not really cheese) sold at the grocery store and I’m wondering how much of those sales figure in this number.

7. Frozen dinners/entrees ($6.13 billion)

Krizia’s point of view: Honestly this number leaves me speechless because it speaks volumes as to why America is so fat. Frozen dinners are a poor food choice and when $6 billion of that food is being purchased and consumed it’s no wonder there is an obesity crisis in America.

> If you’ve not read the post I wrote on Jamie Oliver’s crusade to help curb people’s appetite for frozen dinners, you can read it here: Jamie Oliver: STOP eating frozen foods!

PLEASE LINK TO THIS POST: Jamie Oliver: STOP eating frozen foods!

8. Cold cereal ($6.11 billion)

Krizia’s point of view: When I read that number I can only think of one thing: sugar, sugar and more sugar. Don’t get me wrong. I do eat cold cereals, but I exclusively buy cereals from the natural healthy food shops or at the natural health section of my grocery store because the list of ingredients is cleaner and I won’t find ingredients like corn syrup, hydrogenated fat or other products that don’t support my health. I also eat a lot of hot oatmeal and other whole grain cereals that you have to cook on the stove and contain very high levels of fibre.

9. Wine ($5.49 billion)

Krizia’s point of view: Well there really isn’t anything wrong with a little wine as long as you keep it to two glasses a day! This actually might be one of the foods that is good for you if Americans were buying red wine and limiting it to the two glasses per day limit.

10. Cigarettes ($4.63 billion)

Krizia’s point of view: Hmmmm, this is NOT food! I guess this number shows that a lot of Americans are smokers and the sales of cigarettes in the U.S. rival that of foods.

Note (this note came from the Chicago Tribune Web site): The IRI data is based on UPC scan sales at retail. Thus data isn’t collected on perishable produce, meat and other categories, which hopefully explains why fruits and vegetables aren’t on the list.

Krizia’s final word: Now, I know that in the coming weeks and days most of us will be living off of pops, drinks, salty snacks and frozen appetizers while the party season is underway. That said, I think it’s important to take stock of these figures because once the clock passes midnight on December 31st a lot of people will be panicking and trying to understand why they’ve gained so much weight and what they can do to lose the weight.

The healthy eating rule to better health is quite simple: if you shop in the perimeters of your grocery store you are less likely to buy junk foods. That said there are a lot of great foods that you can find inside the grocery store, but you simply need to know what to buy and how to select them.

I will create a short how-to-shop-at-your-grocery-store tutorial soon to help all of you who are having a hard time at it. It’s not complicated, but then again … nothing is complicated when you know what you are doing.

I guess the obvious answer is to buy better quality foods!

***The biggest mistakes you might make over the holidays that would cause you to gain a LOT of weight are exposed in this post!***

Party over here, party over there, party everywhere!!!

Is there not a song that has those words? Well for most of us the last month of the year is party month.

With parties come a deluge of drinks (pops, juices and alcoholic beverages) and a mountain of food at every corner.

>>> Three foods that will surely kill your diet during the holidays:

1) The endless mountain of home-baked sweets you’ll be eating soon! How many amateur bakers unleash the power of their stand mixer during the holiday season just to come to work with a platter of freshly baked goods? It’s so hard to resist all those treats and that doesn’t even take into consideration all the mini-chocolates and candy canes floating around the office.

2) How many cocktails or eggnog drinks did you have this week? Trust me, you will lose count of how many drinks you’ll consume during the holiday season, but your body is keeping track and every sip is adding up on the calorie scale! If you don’t usually gravitate towards alcoholic beverages, there is no shortage of soft drinks available and don’t forget about those virgin-drinks! It all amounts to one thing in the end: sugar!

3) How many appetizers can one consume in a day or an evening during party-hopping season? Far more than you think!

Appetizers and snacks may not seem like food in comparison to sitting down with a plate (a fork and a knife), but they will considerably add to your calorie load because you can easily overindulge when it comes to those bite-size portions that are so popular at this time of the year.

You see, when it comes to appetizers, most of us stand in front of a table, chatting up a storm, reminiscing about the year that has passed all the while popping copious amounts of bite-size food in our mouths.

Also, when you are going from one invitation to another, it almost seems rude not to eat all of them. You really don’t want to disrespect your host by saying that you just came from another party and you ate up a storm.

> So how do you control your weight during party-season and avoid overeating?

There are definitely tricks to avoid overeating during the holiday season. Most of them are dead simple and won’t put a damper on your holiday spirits and they also won’t add to your waist line.

I don’t think the idea is to give up the holiday treats that are only available once a year. I think it’s more of a question of actually learning a few tricks that will allow you to enjoy the holiday season without putting on too many pounds.

I guess what I’m saying is that it is possible to enjoy holiday meals and desserts while maintaining a healthy weight during the month of December!

> 13 simple tricks to avoid overeating during the holiday season:

1. Have a liquid breakfast: When you’ve spent the evening eating and eating and eating, you don’t want to wake up the next morning and eat a bagel or a muffin. Even outside of the holiday season, you should keep your breakfast light because as the name says, it’s the meal that breaks the night-time fast. You should opt for fresh fruits, smoothies or freshly squeezed juices.

2. Drink water: Water is essential. It’s even more important to remember to drink water during the holidays because you are drinking so many alcoholic beverages and soft drinks. To make it easier, why not carry a bottle of water with you and make sure you drink one or two litres a day.

3. Don’t go hungry: If you are running around, do grab something on the go like a sandwich or a handful of nuts before you head to your parties. If you arrive famished at your parties, you will not discriminate and you’ll end up eating everything that’s offered to you to quiet your stomach.

4. Eat something healthy: If you have a lot of parties, try to eat a healthy salad at lunch (not one with heavy oily salad dressings). You don’t want to only eat sweets, highly saturated foods and alcohol for two weeks straight.

5. Dips can contain a lot of calories: Dips and veggies are a holiday feast staple. Yes, it may seem like a healthy choice to eat raw vegetables, but some of those dips are insanely high in calories. Hummus (Middle Eastern chickpea dip), cutting back on the amount of dip you eat or bypassing dips all together and sticking to the veggies (it’s not like you’re not going to eat anything else) are much safer options.

6. PLEASE grab a plate: If you’re going to eat appetizers, put them on a plate. If you see what you are eating, your brain will quickly do the math and you’ll stop eating eventually when you realize that you’re consuming way too much food.

7. Control your pace: If you know you have more than one party to go to for the evening, why not cut back your portions at each party?

8. Keep walking right past the food: Office parties are just cruel during party season. It seems like each department and each group within each department throws a party. That also means that board rooms and office kitchens are always loaded with leftovers. If you see them, you don’t have to stop and sample the goods, you can (and SHOULD) just keep walking.

9. You don’t have to eat dessert: This is definitely the season for decadent sweets and many desserts that you only get to sample once a year. Try to keep your calories for your absolute favourites. This might sound like a sacrilege to some, but you don’t have to eat desserts all the time AND you don’t have to taste all the desserts that are presented to you.

10. Have some of my freshly baked goods! Yes, that IS the invitation of the season. Everyone comes to work with home baked goods and boxes of chocolates. Everyone is so polite and so caring, so of course they don’t want you to feel left out and they’ll offer you food. You don’t have to say yes if you’ve already eaten a lot or if you have a string of parties scheduled for that day or that week.

11. You don’t have to go back for seconds (or thirds): So you’ve been good and you did put your food on a plate so you can actually see what you are eating. That doesn’t mean you need to go back for seconds or thirds because chances are, you’re just getting started when it comes to your party-hopping schedule.

12. Alcoholic beverages do contain calories: It goes without saying that when it comes to alcohol, you also want to control your intake. Alcoholic beverages are very high in calories (because they contain a lot of sugar) and they dehydrate your body.

13. Walk off some of the calories: It’s so easy during this time of the year to eat, drink and sit (and repeat). If seems like we are going from one meal to another without any breaks. If you don’t have time to maintain your regular fitness program, be sure to take walks or do anything you can to keep moving. Remember that managing the remote control doesn’t count as a calorie-burning activity.

> So are these tips that I use myself?

I’ll be honest, I have the reverse problem during the holidays. When I see too much food, my brain shuts down and yells “no more”. When most people I know complain about the weight gain in January, I usually have nothing to add to that discussion because I simply cannot stand being around that much food.

When it comes to alcohol, once I’ve passed the three-drink mark, my stomach starts screaming for relief, so I’ll switch to sparkling or flat water.

> So why are these tips to avoid overeating during the holiday season so important?

There is nothing more discouraging than having to lose weight that you’ve put on over a two- or three-week period of overeating. It’s a known fact that as we age, we simply don’t burn as much calories and fat as we used to if we live an inactive lifestyle where we have little physical activity. You gain weight as you age because your muscle mass diminishes with time and if you don’t exercise and overeat during the holidays, you too will be trying to find the latest lose-weight-quick-Hollywood-diet of the year in January.

Losing weight is hard enough, so having to lose 20 pounds that you’ve put on during a short period of time is challenging and there are ways to avoid it all together without sacrificing your party enjoyment.

You can have your cake and eat it too during the holiday season … as long as you don’t end up eating the entire cake (or the equivalent in calories)!

Don’t worry, in the coming weeks, I’ll have loads of tips and advice to help you get on track for the New Year and lose weight … and none of them involve silly diet gimmicks!

***Don’t miss 5 incredible videos at the end of this post!***

What if you had a healthy eating expert walk you through the grocery store guiding you in making better food choices when you do your grocery shopping?

Would this be something you’d like? I think most people would jump at the chance of learning healthy eating tips from the creator of Genuine Health’s Greens+ Superfood powder.

I can tell you, that I start my days with Greens+ and it’s done wonders at supporting my health. I’ve had the opportunity of meeting Sam Graci at a number of events, but when I received an email telling me that Sam would be at Whole Foods Market offering advice on pH foods how to do make better food choices at the grocery store, I grabbed my brand new Canon VIXIA HF200 HD Flash Memory Camcorder with 15x Optical Zoom and ran.

I will first start with the videos and then I’ll explain more on pH foods and how important they are in supporting your health. This is a five-part video, so you’ll want to watch all of them to get as many tips as you can because we literally walked around the store for close to one hour and Sam is a real encyclopaedia of healthy foods!

What are pH foods and why do you need a good balance in your diet?

Since this is a fairly complicated subject, I think it’s best to listen to what Sam Graci has to say about the importance of eating a pH balanced diet.

>>> Sam Graci talks about the importance of a pH balanced diet:

We’ve all heard about the importance of eating a healthful diet, exercising, taking time for ourselves, but what if there was a simple test to let you know how well you were doing in this quest for health?

Your pH is that measurement. A slightly alkaline pH (7) is a scientifically proven way to a healthier and more vibrant you.

pH stands for potential of hydrogen. The body’s pH represents the balance of positively charged ions to negatively charged ions.

According to Dr John Berardi , author of Gourmet Nutrition, University of Texas professor, and trainer to many of North America’s elite athletes,

“When you eat a highly acidic diet you force the body to steal alkalinizing substances from various tissues, causing: an increase in muscle-breakdown hormones (cortisol); a decrease in muscle-building hormones; a decrease in metabolic boost (thyroid hormone); a loss of bone mass as the mineral from your bones are used to lower the pH of your blood; and a loss of muscle mass. This gets worse with age, as the kidneys don’t work as well.”

On the flip-side, if your pH level ranges between 7.5 and 8.0, it’s considered alkalosis. In this state, sluggishness and lethargy are common. A dramatically fluctuating pH level, from high acid to high alkaline, could be responsible for mood swings and sudden energy drops.

And while most of us follow a healthy diet, we tend to be more acidic than alkaline. This can be a result of consuming too many acid-forming foods such as poultry, eggs, meat, grains, legumes, nuts and seeds. Cola beverages, alcohol and coffee are among the most acid-forming, and should be avoided when possible. Strenuous exercise and regular stress can also contribute to an abundance of acidity.

To find out what your pH level is, look for a pH testing kit where leading supplements are found. The test is relatively straightforward and will help you determine your acid/alkaline balance.

For the quickest and easiest way to become more alkaline and get more energized, do what Graci does every morning: take Greens+ first thing each morning. According to University of Toronto researchers using the Potential Renal Acid Load (PRAL) test, the leading green drink was found to be the most alkalizing food. In fact, it proved 200% more alkalizing than spinach and 300% more than dark grapes or raisins.

Graci, author of a number of books including The Bone-Building Solution, also recommends combining acid-forming foods with alkaline. This can include eating chicken with broccoli or tofu with dark green vegetables. By combining foods like these, you can naturally promote a healthier acid/alkaline balance, which in turn promotes a healthier, more energized body.

Your mental state is also an important factor to your health and can impact your pH levels. Meditation, Tai Chi, reflexology, massage, calming music and yoga are all activities that can help buffer the acids of daily living, and promote an alkaline body. Try deep, slow breathing daily as oxygen rids your body of stale, acidic carbon dioxide. Oxygen is the first and foremost cell-friendly nutrient, and takes only a few minutes each day to get yours!

>>> Simple chart to evaluate your pH balance:

This chart will help you determine your pH levels!

>>> What does a basket of pH balanced foods look like?

I was so happy when I found out that I would be able to go home with two big baskets of mostly organic foods from Whole Foods Market! I mean, when you are so passionate about healthy eating, getting all that organic food is a dream come true.

Is it possible to get all that you want in life? Is it possible to get the body of your dreams?

I’m going to answer these questions and yes there is a part of it that relates to you getting the healthy body you’ve always dreamed of.

I recently bought a program I never (EVER) thought I’d buy in my life. The first time I heard about this program, I dismissed it as being fluff.

I’ve been on the path to personal growth for many years now and I’ve read so many books it’s almost insane.

I’ve made some progress in certain areas of my life (and I’m pretty proud of myself for that), but I still didn’t feel that I was achieving all of my life goals.

It’s not at all that I don’t know what I’m supposed to do to get to where I want to get in life, it’s more the fact that self-doubt, fear, worry and self-defeating talk can sometimes keep me stuck in a bad place.

I’ve read so many books, listened to countless self-development CDs and travelled several kilometres to personal growth conferences or weekend seminars that I could barely afford and I still felt like I was banging my head against the wall.

Yup, with all these efforts and all this money wasted, I still felt really stuck!

Get six free life visualization movies and visualize your perfect body weight!

I’ve known that visualization has been the way so many top performers get to where they need to get in life, but my attempt at visualization have been quite laughable.

I’ve bought binders and spent hours cutting out photos from magazines and I’ve taken the time to look all my dream photos (in the morning and before going to bed) but I still wasn’t getting to where I wanted to get in life.

At some point I got so frustrated with my lack of success in certain areas of my life that I decided to pull out some of the photos from what I used to call “my dream book” and I stuck them on my wall so I could see them ALL THE TIME. I quickly realized that unless I wanted my home to look like a big magazine, I couldn’t possibly keep posting magazine photos on my walls.

Get six free life visualization movies and visualize your perfect body weight!

At some point I thought of going out and buying huge painter’s canvases to post my photos but the logistics of getting those giant canvases home and the cost associated to buying them and then I’d needed to figure out a way to get them home made me quickly realize how off the mark I truly was.

As I was getting really discouraged, I got an email for that program I first thought was pure fluff and OH MY GOD was I ever wrong.

This system has allowed me to put all of the different aspects of my life where I’m looking for success and growth onto a sort of film track that I watch every single day.

I’ve also incorporated some affirmation sentences and I cannot tell you how much of a difference this has made on my way of seeing my life and for the first time in a long time, I have hope.

>>>> See your perfect body, get your perfect body!

When it comes to getting into better shape, losing weight, having a better relationship with your body or being happier … you really have to be clear about what you want and you have to be able to see the end results.

If you are like me and you’ve been running around in circles, I recommend you check out this program.

Get six free life visualization movies and visualize your perfect body weight!

Now it’s true that in my case I was dealing with success issues, but you can easily use this system to “talk yourself” into a better body.

Trust me, there is not one aspect of your life that you cannot ameliorate when you use daily visualization!

You can now get six free life visualization movies to help you reach the following life goals:

> Life visualization movies #1: Increase your health and lose excess weight.

> Life visualization movies #2: Increase your financial wellbeing and attract money into your life.

> Life visualization movies #3: Increase your spiritual fulfillment and become a more appreciative, humble and gracious person.

> Life visualization movies #4: Build strong enviable relationships with your family and loved ones.

> Life visualization movies #5: Find the man of your dreams.

> Life visualization movies #6: Find the women of your dreams.

Listen, don’t do what I did. I knew of this program one year ago, but I dismissed it because I was influenced by other people who were saying it’s a waste of time.

Trust me … you won’t waste your time with this visualization system because it will help you get to where you are finally happy with your body (and you’ll be happier with your life) and you’ll be able to more easily reach your weight goal because you’ll have a VERY CLEAR focus to “why” you really want to drop the weight and how your life (and body) will look like when you do!

The program is only $39 (the list of videos I talk about above are free, but you’ll need to pay to be able to create your own dreams) and I can assure you that it’s the best $39 I’ve spent.

Oh, before I forget, there are a lot of great extra bonuses to help you along the way. The support is really incredible.

Did you miss the CNN feature a few weeks ago when Dr. Sanjay Gupta explained why you should be aware of brown fat? Did you also miss Dr. Mehmet Oz’s explanation on brown fat as well?

Well after being taken by surprise by this new nutritional news, I asked my editor Colleen to help shed some light on something I frankly had not heard about until recently.

If you missed the facts about brown fat, I hope this feature will bring you up to speed.

Feature by our Editorial Assistant Colleen

Did you know that brown fat is actually something you should pay attention to and add to your diet? But what is it?

Well brown fat is responsible for warming up your body’s temperature and essentially helps your body burn calories. Brown fat is more useful than white fat when it comes to helping you achieve your weight loss goals. You see, white fat doesn’t really do anything but sit around in your body and releases chemical and hormones that doesn’t really do much for your health. White fat just stores up your calories (but it also stores up energy for you) and sits there creating those unwanted waistlines (aka belly fat).

Brown fat, on the other hand, is what we all need more of!

Idealistically, if you were to have a lot of brown fat it would burn calories faster, just like when you were younger and you were able to eat almost anything and not really gain any weight. That also perhaps explains why you have some friends who seem to be able to eat anything they want and not gain a pound.

As I write this, there are researchers frantically trying to form a drug to activate more brown fat cells which might be useful for many people who have trouble losing weight.

Here’s some more facts about brown fat that might help:

1) Typically brown fat is found the most in newborns.

2) Brown fat cells are activated when your temperature changes. So when it’s cold out the brown fat cells start working and warming up your body.

3) Brown fat is found mostly in rodents as opposed to humans.

4) As you get older, the amount of brown fat cells you have decreases.

5) You can’t actually see brown fat. It surrounds your organs and can be seen as hot spots in scans.
