Why I am a member of the Slow Food movement

Before being a beauty editor, I used to be a food editor and before that I was a part-time personal chef. Food is just part of who I am. I’m always thinking about food or I’m thinking about a new recipe. I receive four or five weekly newsletters and I’m always hunting for the next great food and flavour combination.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again … if grocery shopping was an Olympic sport, I’d represent my country well!

Raw almonds and unpasteurized honey is my new favourite snack combo


I’d love to say this idea was intentional, but it really wasn’t.
It was simply my desire to get rid of a container of honey.
I quite enjoy honey on my muffins and I found myself with very little left so I decided to scrape the top of the container of honey with a few almonds.
It never occurred to me that this simple and innocent action would result in one of my favourite current snacks!

10 reasons to eat chickpeas more often

I really like chickpeas a lot. I obviously enjoy them as hummus, but I also like chickpea soup quite a lot. Also, I never hesitate to add chickpeas to my salads or pastas because it’s an easy and quick way for me to add a good source of protein to my meal.
Europeans (especially the French, Greeks, Spaniards, Portuguese and Italians), Northern Africans (Morocco, Algeria, Libya and Egypt) and Middle Easterners eat their fair share of chickpeas because it’s a basic ingredient in their diet and so many traditional local favourite dishes are made with chickpeas.

Are you getting the right kind of flax seeds in your diet?
This is going to be a very short post, but I thought it was important to highlight something that a lot of people might not understand. I know that I was also misguided when it came to flax seeds.
It appears that not all flax seeds are created equally.
I found out about this a few months ago while watching Dr. Mehmet Oz on one of Oprah’s health segments, but a few weeks ago I was also confronted with this important lesson about flax seeds and I thought I’d pass on my findings.
