How to store strawberries?
Local strawberries are in season! It’s so important to eat them when they are in season because strawberries don’t ripen after they’ve been picked. When you buy local strawberries you buy them when they are ripen to perfection.
Since you might be lucky enough to get your hands on a lot of local strawberries, you might have to store them so that you can eat some now and keep some for later.
There are really two ways of storing your strawberries: 1) you can refrigerate them 2) you can freeze them.
1) If you’re going to refrigerate strawberries you’ll want to take the following into consideration:
* Strawberries will last a few days in the fridge.
* Make sure you store them in a well ventilated container
* If you have the room, you can also store your strawberries on a paper towel-lined shallow pan or glass dish.
* Never wash your strawberries before putting them in the fridge.
* Wait until you’ve washed your strawberries before removing the hulls (green head).
2) If you’re going to freeze strawberries you’ll want to take the following into consideration:
* Rinse your strawberries whole (don’t cut them)
* Let them dry fully.
*Remove hulls
* Place your strawberries on a single layer and then place them in the freezer.
* Once the strawberries are firm, you can store them in a plastic bag or a plastic container.
>>> You’ll be able to enjoy strawberries from mid-June until late July! I hope this post will motivate you to run to your grocery store to buy strawberries.
