***Dr. John Berardi shares 7 myths that are holding you back from reaching a healthy weight***

Ever since I discovered Dr. John Berardi’s approach to nutrition and fitness, I’ve been hooked. Most of what he teaches fall in line with the way I’ve approached food, nutrition, diet and fitness for the past decade.

I might not be a trained chef (I was a personal chef and I helped people eat better quality foods), I might not have a degree in nutrition (I spend most of my free time reading and learning about better ways to age well), I might not be a celebrity trainer (I’ve taught myself how to train properly to have a strong and fit body as I age) and I’m surely not a guess speaker on any morning TV show, but I can tell you that learning how to properly eat and stay fit over the past 10 years has put me in a position where it’s much easier for me to quickly assess those so-called experts who know what they’re talking about and those who are blowing hot air.

There are so many “experts” who offer short-lived-quick-fix approaches to fitness and nutrition that sum up to nothing better than tips to yo-yo dieting. Dr. John has been coaching real athletes for a long time and he knows first-hand what our body needs to perform at optimal levels without resorting to quick fixes that only sabotage your health in the long run.

I recently was lucky enough to interview Dr. John Berardi and I cannot tell you how proud I was to see how many things we saw eye to eye on when it came to nutrition and fitness.
I will share with you the most important point of our discussion. Some of those nutrition and fitness facts won’t come as a surprise because they’ve been said before, but merits mentioning again because so many people are still not setting themselves up for success when approaching their diet and their lifestyle. Some other facts will shock you and hopefully, they’ll make you want to read this site more in depth and get you revved up for action!

>>>Dr. John Berardi talks about seven nutrition and diet myths<<<

My interview with Dr. John Berardi was like a meeting of the minds. Now before I continue, I should say that many of Dr. Berardi’s tips are really for people who are committed to make long-term positive changes to their health and fitness level. If you’re looking for a few tips to help you drop 3 lbs before the end of the week … you’re wasting your time by reading this post.

To make the read as easy as possible, I’ve segmented the interview in Q & As:

1) Why do people have so many problems and issues with food?

START HERE

Dr. John Berardi: When I work with clients, it can take as much as six months to change their views about food. I first have to change their North American ways of approaching diet. This is especially true of women who are hardcore calorie counters … this is a philosophy that you find in North America and now in the U.K., but you won’t find this approach to food in countries like France or Italy (and I’ll tell you why later).

When we are very young, we’re conditioned to believe that being skinny means that you’ll be happier, you’re fitter, you’ll be able to get any boy you want, that you’ll marry well and that you’ll be hugely successful.

Simply put, if you want to be happy, you just need to be skinny. This type of messaging follows you subconsciously your entire life and unless you make conscious efforts to learn how to eat to be leaner, you’ll have to resort to what’s easy: eating less, binging, bulimia or anorexia.

You see it may sound logical to dramatically reduce your intake of food to quickly lose weight and have less body fat, but that approach is just not smart on a physiological level (basically you’re screwing up your body).

So many women in North America have issues with food and I’ve even worked with a female client who ONLY ate eight foods (not nine, not 10), she only ate a set number of foods that she believed would keep her slim forever … that’s just crazy!
