Master Your Metabolism The 3 Diet Secrets to Naturally Balancing Your Hormones for a Hot and Healthy Body

Does it feel as if you re fighting your body to lose even one pound or just to maintain your current weight? Respected health and wellness expert and bestselling author Jillian Michaels has been there, too. So she consulted top experts in the field of metabolism and discovered that she d inadvertently been abusing her endocrine system for years. After fixing her own metabolism, she decided to share what she learned by devising this simple, 3-phase plan that engages all the weight-loss hormones (including the friendly HGH, testosterone, DHEA; and the not-so-friendly: insulin, cortisol, and excess estrogen).

In Master Your Metabolism, discover how to:
REMOVE anti-nutrients from your diet
RESTORE foods that speak directly to fat-burning genes
REBALANCE energy and your hormones for effortless weight loss

Michaels offers a wealth of information throughout, including: shopping lists and online shopping resources, hormone-trigger food charts, how to eat power nutrient foods on a budget, smart strategies for eating out, quick and easy recipes, as well as mini-programs for addressing PMS, andropause, metabolic syndrome, PCOS, and menopause.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars AMAZING BOOK!
Jillian’s book was the ticket I needed to get motivated, get informed, and get involved with healthy real weight loss. This book gives you so much info about why you should eat healthy, which was exactly what I needed to keep motivated to eat healthy. She talks about the science of your hormones, and how they affect your metabolism, and it makes you feel so much better and understand more about why you and so many other people are overweight. I have started eating organic and love the way it makes me feel! Pair this will Jillian’s workout videos and I feel more healthy than ever! :)

1 Star Totally missing obesogen issue
Decent, if not really in-depth, look at how our hormones get disrupted, but there’s really no original reporting. And most of the first few chapters are her talking about dark splotches on her face and all this other personal stuff. Yuck. I picked up The New American Diet after reading about it in the Wall Street Journal, and it is much more scientific and authoritative. The New American Diet: How secret “obesogens” are making us fat, and the 6-week plan that will flatten your belly for good! You’d think, with all the controversy over how “obesogens” disrupt our hormones, that Michaels would have mentioned them! Sloppy…

4 Stars Very informative
This book explains in detail why we need to eat, and why we need to eat it.

It’s main argument is that the chemicals of the food industry have made our bodies sick and fat. The book uses a great amount of scientific knowledge to convince you of it’s main point. Some other reviewers saw this as a detriment which I don’t understand. Granted, I took some chemistry in college, but it wasn’t so complex that you can’t follow and they do simplify it.

Just like another reviewer said… the basic tenets of this book is quite simple. Get off the junk that our corrupted food industry is producing (sorry for that liberal rant, wont happen again) and eat organic, rid yourself of products that have high fructose corn syrup, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, glutamates, hydrogenated fats, and simple carbs. If you don’t know what these are, google it or buy the book, it explains it well also.

The only criticism I have is one of economics. Organic is expensive, as other reviewers have said. However, as the author points out, long term medical bills and being fat cost more. Also, author argues to do what you can. Buy organic when you can is still preferable to not buying it at all.

5 Stars Good information, good starting point
This book provides a great overview of hormones and how they impact our bodies and lives. I’m not going to repeat what others have said about eatting “clean”, and the need to use our bodies….That’s why we’ve got them after all. What I will say is she covers the bases…the hormones and disorders that impact our weight and wellbeing…not just the hormones that pack the pounds on. After reading this I did realize, on a personal level, that I needed to do more research on a few specifics….but I would not have even considered hormone imbalance as being a factor if it weren’t for this book. I bought this book in a store, having had the opportunity to skim it prior to purchase, and was impressed with the research and “science” that went into it. When I saw the book I thought it might be “gimmicky” but it isn’t. It’s real and it’s solid.

I own…and use.. Jillian’s workout DVDs (I’ve never watched the “Biggest Loser”), but my regard and respect for her increased substanially after reading this book…written with integrity.

2 Stars You need a Masters Degree to decipher this book
I am an educated woman, but I had to read this several times to get the whole picture. Even then, the book could have used a few more chapters…..Now that you understand the science behind this concept, do this. Also, it is confusing as to what Jillian is to referring to when it comes to Carbs, Fat and Protein. As an old Adkins fan, I know Beans as Carbs and a big no no. Time will tell……
