If you’ve tried the Insanity: The Ultimate Cardio Workout and Fitness DVD Program and achieved the results Shaun T promises, I want to hear from you!
I’ll be honest, I’m a huge sucker for fitness infomercials (okay, any kind of infomercials).
That said, Beach Body infomercials are my favourites. They make working out and having a rock hard solid body so sexy that I always want to pick up the phone and dial the number to order the latest Beach Body even if I’m totally committed to training 4 days a week for 60-90 minutes at a time.
It took a while for Shaun T’s infomercials to make it to Canada, but when I saw the Insanity Workout I nearly cried. This is the kind of intensity workout that makes you start speaking fluently in a foreign language because the burn is so intense it starts messing with your brain (in a good way)!
This is the kind of workout I live for. This is the kind of workout that makes me want more!
I’m not going to lie, I’ve not yet gotten my hands on the Insanity: The Ultimate Cardio Workout and Fitness DVD Program, but I wanted to open the floor to readers to find out how other Insanity Workout users feel about the workout.
I’ll use Shaun T’s words because from my assessment of the workout and the many plyometric moves, the Insanity Workout “is NOT for everyone”.
If you’ve never heard of plyometric exercises before, I grabbed this definition from Wikipedia to help:
Plyometrics is a type of exercise training designed to produce fast, powerful movements, and improve the functions of the nervous system, generally for the purpose of improving performance in sports. Plyometric movements, in which a muscle is loaded and then contracted in rapid sequence, use the strength, elasticity and innervations of muscle and surrounding tissues to jump higher, run faster, throw farther, or hit harder, depending on the desired training goal.
If you are lazy and love to make excuses for why you are still stuck in a body you hate, keep your money in your wallet because buying Shaun T’s Insanity Workout is a waste of your hard earned money.
That said, if you are sick and tired of being sick and tired of your out-of-shape-body, Shaun T has a workout that will rock your world! Even if you decided not to stick with the Insanity Workout for the rest of your life, you will be able to learn techniques that will change the way you see your body and that might be enough to get you into other fitness activities you are willing to stick with for life.
>>> Krizia, how can you tell … you’ve not done Shaun T’s workout?
Yup, you are right. I’ve not yet bought the program, but all of the moves that Shaun T does, I do them during my workouts (which I’ve learned from workout with top personal trainers who never allowed me to slack off or work at less than my optimum capacity) and many of those moves are quite similar to the insanely intensive warm-ups from my fitness boxing classes.
A lot of “as seen on TV” fitness programs out there are meant to entertain you, but I’ve found that Beach Body knows how to transform the body into a work of art.
I’ve used many of Tony Horton’s moves from the P90X training at the gym and I’ve been amazed of the results because the workout is base on muscle confusion. Muscle confusion is a technique that uses different workouts focused on the same muscle group. When you are working out and you hit a plateau that is because you are doing the same workouts for your muscles and your muscles get used to that and stop growing. Muscle confusion eliminates plateaus, by always changing up the style of exercise for that particular muscle group
Tony Horton and Shaun T are extreme personal trainers (a lot like Jillian and Bob from The Biggest Losers – they don’t care about your crappy excuses). The goal of these types of personal trainers is not to become your friend, but to change your body for life.
If you’ve been reading this site for a while you know that I won’t talk about too many TV exercise offers unless I’m questioning their purpose, but Beach Body … well that’s a totally different story because that company has assembled a stellar group of fitness coaches.
>>> Why can you see results with the Shaun T’s Insanity Workout in 60 days?
Interestingly enough the Insanity: The Ultimate Cardio Workout and Fitness DVD Program is based on the same principles my own personal trainers have thought me: workout hard for longer periods and have shorter rest periods. Actually this is exactly how my spinning classes are structured with my favourite spin instructors.
We’ll ride a 7 or 8 minute song really hard (and sweat is dripping from every part of my body and I’m loving every second) and we’ll have a 1 or 2 minute recovery and then we’ll jump into a 5 minute rapid cycle and then rest again for 1 minute and keep the same pace for 45 minutes.
When I train with weights I use the same principles and my fitness boxing classes are structured exactly like that (actually the rest periods are quite short).
Most old-school workouts are structured with short burst of maximum intensity followed by long rest periods, but if you invert that chart you get a harder body much faster.
So the concept behind the Insanity Workout is to work out for a long period of time at maximum intensity and then take shorter breaks.
I can share with you that my entire life I’ve wanted rock hard abs and I had tried everything (I mean hundreds of sit-ups and crunches). When I started working out differently, I got the abs I had always wanted without doing one crunch or one sit-up because the way I train now works my core!
Shaun T’s model is based on the training of few high-calibre personal trainers (the like I’ve been lucky enough to train with).
>>>> The Insanity: The Ultimate Cardio Workout and Fitness DVD Program looks like:
* Cardio for accelerated fat burn
* Plyometrics for explosive lower body power
* Sports drills for speed and agility
* Resistance training for upper body definition
* Core exercises for insane abs (ditch the traditional crunch or sit up, because core training is what really gives you killer abs)
Max interval training is secret behind Shaun T’s Insanity: The Ultimate Cardio Workout and Fitness DVD Program and that’s why you see results quickly because you are training the way high-calibre personal trainers work with their clients!
>>> In fact this whole Insanity Workout reminds me of the training day I had at the Twist Sport Conditioning Summit (I even have an interview with president and founder Peter Twist).
