One of my guilty pleasures is watching shopping channels AND infomercials. I really am addicted to watching shows that push people into running to get their wallet, pull out their credit card and ORDER!!!

Since I work fairly late, I usually end up catching a few really good infomercials. My dream is still to be able to come up with a product that I can sell via infomercials and make boat loads of money in only a few months. Another of my dreams is to be asked to represent a product on one of those shopping channels. I simply love to watch those sales go up as the hour counts down.

I’m still keeping my eyes open for such opportunities.

The other night I saw an infomercial for the Slender Shaper machine. Now, to be fair to the product, I’ve not tried it or tested it and the following banter is simply common sense (my common sense that is).

First let me explain what the Slender Shaper is and what the manufacturer claims it will do to help you ***effortlessly*** whip yourself back into shape. Did you notice the three stars I placed in front and after the word “effortlessly”? That will come in handy later in this post.

So the Slender Shaper is (and I quote): “A unique oscillating system helps that help ‘melt’ away unwanted fat”.

The machine is supposed to: “help burn fat”, “build muscle”, “no exercising required” AND you only need to make four payments of $29.95 or pay $119.80.

Nope … no efforts are required, hence ***effortlessly***, you just need to sit around with the Slender Shaper machine strapped around a targeted part of your body and in a few weeks you’ll wake up with Madonna‘s body.

I’m not old enough to talk about the 50s or 60s as decades that I remember, but I do remember seeing a number of old black and white adverts showing women with a huge belt around their waste attached to a machine that was supposed to “shake off” the pounds (remember those?).

(Warning, I’m about to get very sarcastic): P-L-E-A-S-E! Does anyone still believe they can sit around watching the telly with a little gizmo strapped to their waist that will burn off fat and build muscle?

I’ve been lifting weights and been a hardcore strength trainer for a decade now and I can assure you that if you are just sitting around and not lifting weights or squatting, you are NOT building muscles and you are NOT burning fat (period).

There are some of those TV workouts that are legitimately going to help you lose weight because they force you to move and sweat. There are a number of TV exercise machines that will also provide some level of results if you actually use them on a regular basis, but again, this means that you are actually exercising.

I’m sorry, but unless you actually break a sweat you will NEVER lose weight and there is NO chance in hell that you’ll build muscles.

I can assure you that the model on the photo you see with this post has surely not acquired her lean and firm body by sitting around.

I’d love to hear your views on the topic. Do drop me a line in the comment section below.

LOL at first I thought you were going to say buy one of those machines. I was laughing because I have seen those old commercials, in fact my grandmother [who wasn't fat] had one. God rest her soul.

I agree 100% with what you all said. But if they can top this magic off with a 100% money back guarantee outside their optional $19.95 1 year extended warranty, I wouldn’t mind buckling it up on me. But honestly, for $119.80, it’s a whopper to the negative power!

    Haha! Sweat = fat burning!

Yeah, sitting on a sofa or couch doesn’t mean a thing because you’re not breaking a sweat and NOT burning any calories.

Though maybe tested, this machine seems a bit unbelievable because they idea of it helping you loose weight while require no effort is insane.

If you do nothing you get no fat loss results.

If you guys really want to slim down…stretch a bone and break a sweat!

    Princess,

I agree to you. This doesn’t make sense. They can only give you a possible result and not an assurance that you will get what you want.

Exercise is the best thing to do. That’s all it, its very effective.

    Hi
after reviewing all of your view first i was confused in my buying decision but as per my personal view i should definatly try it out and finally i have bought and using Slender and Shapper on for 15 to 20 twice in a day i do expect that i will work a lot for me the only thing i am curious that after using it also improves the digestion system

    Ijoyya,

It would be wonderful if you did come back to the site and posted your results with the Slender Shaper.

If you try it out for 15-20 minutes twice a day and get great results, I’m willing to reconsider my position and perhaps do a follow-up post.

In my opinion, a machine like that will not give the types of results that will really help you lose the weight and keep it off for good because it’s the lazy-man’s (or woman’s) workout.

Those types of gadget are great for a few weeks, then they end up at a garage sale.

Do come back and let me know if the Slender Shaper did or did not help you lose weight and lose your belly fat.

Everyone say it doesn’t work at all…but how can you say that if you never tried it…i mean its a doctor that say it works….so if you try it and tell me that it didn’t worked i will more believe you….but if you didn’t tried it and just say it because it is what you think then it make no sense at all

  8. Eat Smart Age Smart Says:

    MaZeLS,

I’ve been training for over a decade. I train on average 4 days a week for 90 minutes to 2 hours.

I can assure you that from my experience and that of every personal trainer I’ve ever worked with, these types of exercices machines like Slender Shaper don’t work because you cannot target fat loss.

That’s just not how the body is structured. You will lose belly fat once you start lose fat all over your body.

You NEED to burn calories to lose weight and Slender Shaper gets you to sit comfortably on your sofa while you channel surf and you are supposed to drop 1 or 2 dress sizes????

I don’t need to be a doctor or try it to know that is not going to work all that well.

Now, let me give you the benefit of the doubt and say it does work. Will you actually do this for the rest of you life to maintain the results? Chances are that after 2-3 months, you’ll be bored and it will end up in your garage.

In order to lose weight, you need to burn fat and build muscle. You need to find a fitness activity you enjoy enough to keep up with it for the rest of your life.

Also, for the doctors who say it works … you have to also find out if they gave their opinion willingly or if they were paid for the segment.

So to answer your comment. I DO MAKE SENSE.

I can assure you that if you want to be fit, wasting money on machines like this will only be short lived AND that’s why there is ALWAYS a new fab-fade exercise machine that is featured on infomercials on late night TV.

Thanks for dropping by and thanks for getting me to give more explanations on what I based my review on … it’s on 10 years of hardcore training!

I agree with what Mazel said…

Im not a trainor of any kind, but I DO know you can lose weight in so many ways. Exercising, just as you said, with diet, with pills, slimming teas… the only difference with them is the time to get results. Exercise is the best. But for you as a writer/contributor here and reviewing the machine, the most professional thing to have done was to actually USE the product first rather than just mouthing off with your ___ years of trainor experience. Who knows, the machine could make you lose a few pounds – though Im sure not as much as when you’re exercising – and there lies the difference. After seeing how it works/doesnt work then by all means mouth off on it. Right now you just seem narrow-minded on the machine. Even doctors and scientists get stuff wrong.

    foxy_chick,

Thanks for your comment. It’s true I didn’t try the Slender Shaper and I don’t hide that fact.

In terms of many ways of lose weight, you are right again. You can walk, swin, run, skate, ski, dance, karate, box your way to fitness and the list goes on.

The Slender Shaper is a quick fix and not a permanent solution to changing habits that you can stick to for life and that was the point in the feature. The machine cost a lot of money and I wanted people to ask themselves questions before making that decision.

The vast majoriy of TV fitness equipments remain unused because they are a short lived fix.

Indeed, I rely on my decade long of training and natural health experience to write this review and to write everything on this site.

I’m happy you gave some feedback because this is about starting a discussion and I knew that by putting myself out there with my opinion, some readers would not agree. That said, new readers coming to this post will have the opportunity to read different points of view and make a decision.

    Thanks for dropping by!

I got myself a slender shaper a year ago.
Did not help shif the weight, my main aim was to get rid of those love handles.
Now i still have it and have picked it up again, to still try and loose those love handles.
I am also watching my calorie intake so i’ll loose weight anyway and it will not be the slender shaper, but i tell you this, if you suffer from not going for a number 2 regular, this is the tool. maybe they should rebrand it as the slender stool remover, it helps me go every time i use it.

The difficulty with it is that it does not develop a clearly expressed thesis.

Pretty well written, and also your points are very close to my own. Regards.
