Blueberries are packed with goodness. They are one of the most beneficial superfood you can eat!

Blueberries are literally bursting with nutrients and flavor, yet very low in calories. Recently, researchers at Tufts University analyzed 60 fruits and vegetables for their antioxidant capability. Blueberries came out on top, rating highest in their capacity to destroy free radicals.

Blueberries can be quite expensive when you buy them at the store. Let’s not forget that since last year, First Lady Michelle Obama has been encouraging people in America and around the world to plant their own garden to eat more fruits and vegetables at a more affordable price.

storing_strawberries

Local strawberries are in season! It’s so important to eat them when they are in season because strawberries don’t ripen after they’ve been picked. When you buy local strawberries you buy them when they are ripen to perfection.

Since you might be lucky enough to get your hands on a lot of local strawberries, you might have to store them so that you can eat some now and keep some for later.

There are really two ways of storing your strawberries: 1) you can refrigerate them 2) you can freeze them.

1) If you’re going to refrigerate strawberries you’ll want to take the following into consideration:

With all this talk about antioxidants … I decided to put pomegranate juice to the test. Since I quite enjoy smoothies … I thought of combining the two and create a power-packed breakfast smoothie.

I used the single serving of Food and Wine magazine’s Pomegranate and Banana smoothie and I added some protein powder to the mix.

It was quite delicious and the protein kept me full until lunchtime.

Since trying that Food and Wine recipe, I found a few more smoothie recipes made with pomegranate.

Eat pomegranates to age better!

pomegranate_1

I quite like pomegranates and I’ve always enjoyed eating them as a fruit and I also quite like them in salads.

Eating a pomegranate takes as much dedication as eating an artichoke: you spend all this time peeling off the outer layer to get the inside where all the good stuff resides.

I’m sure you must have seen all the new pomegranate juices and pomegranate juice mixes available on the market. If you’re not interested in having to play around with the fruit in order to take advantage of the goodness of the pomegranate … they are quite convenient and easy to use.

I found the following article from Newsmax.com. It’s a well known fact that blueberries are incredibly powerful antioxidants that are essential to good health. This little dark blue super food has been linked to a long list of health benefit, but Newsmax reminds us (pun intended) of how powerful and important blueberries are to maintain a fit brain as we age.

The article was published earlier this year, but the information is very relevant and it’s the kind of information that you need to know about aging well and also about how your brain ages.

This will only take you a few minutes to read, but this is a good reminder that eating blueberries and other antioxidant-rich foods just makes good sense!
