Popcorn isn’t only for the movies!
Next time you have a craving for popcorn, don’t feel guilty-grab some! Popcorn is a healthy option snack and the corn has antioxidants and fiber in it! Self Magazine has a yummy October recipe for popcorn sticky balls. Microwave some honey and pour it over popcorn, semi-sweet chocolate chips and peanuts, roll into balls and then let chill on wax paper until firm. This is a great healthy treat for kids and adults! Eat Smart Age Smart Insider tips: try making smaller balls and putting them into little cellophane colored baggies for Halloween trick or treaters!
It’s true that 90% of the North American population must be on some sort of diet or weight loss program by now and I’m sure that the sales of salad and vegetables are at an all-year high.
It’s also true that many people are starting to feel the pain of holiday shopping. After the holidays so many of us receive our December statements and hesitantly open the envelope to see these huge numbers looking at us. I’m sure you must have the same reaction I do and you must always wonder how it is possible that you could have spent so much money in only a few weeks. Once the shock of holiday shopping has calmed down and you realize it will take more than a few weeks to lose all that weight you’ve put on over the holidays, you’ll most likely realize that as some point in the near future you’d still like to go out for dinner once in a while.
It’s true that a lot of people are going to pack a lunch in the hopes of cutting back on their food spending and some might consider fast food restaurants (and I’m referring to both sit-down fast food restaurants and those take-away/take-out ones) as a great way to “eat out” without spending too much money. Since I don’t eat at fast food restaurants, I’ll usually save my dining-out budget for restaurants that leave a memorable impression.
Now, a local eatery such as a local bistro will NEVER be as cheap as a fast food restaurant but you won’t spend nearly as much as higher end restaurant and you’ll end up with a delicious meal at a great price.
Local eateries use fresh ingredients in the preparation of their meal something you won’t see in fast food joints and local eateries actually employ chefs that have a sense of consciousness when it comes to the food they prepare and serve.
I was really not in the mood to cook the other night so I decided to head to a local eatery called Le Gourmand to taste their new food concept.
Here we are again at the beginning of a brand new year filled with hope and aspirations.
For most people, fitness (aka eating healthy, exercising, losing weight, getting the entire family on a healthy regime, stop being a couch potato and much more) tops the list of things they want to improve for the year.
That said, I think it is brutally important that you be as specific as possible when it comes to determining what outcome you want. Basically, you need to have a clear vision as to what you want to accomplish and how you’ll make it happen.
I’d love to open the floor and hear what readers have to say about which healthy habits they’re committing to for the New Year.
I’ll go ahead and start the discussion and I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
Practices Krizia is committed to maintaining in 2010:
* I floss every single day (even on vacation)
* I remove my make-up each night … even if it’s 3 a.m.!
* I love to exercise and I love when I sweat so much I can barely see in front of me.
This is surely the time of year where so many people drink a few more drinks than usual.
I don’t know about you, but I find there is nothing worse than a hangover. I mean you are in so much pain and discomfort you have to wonder WHY did you have to drink to this point?
There are many cures to a hangover that have been passed on from generation to generation and some work, but some are really more old wives’ tales than anything else.
If you’ve spent a bit too much time partying and drinking it up, there are some foods that can bring comfort and help deal with your headaches, nausea, stomachache, fatigue and overall sense of feeling really “yuck”.
>>> Here are some foods you’ll want to reach for when you have a bad hangover:
1. Drink water: An old dotcom colleague of mine told me that if I drank too much, I needed to drink as much water as I possibly could before going to bed and when I get up in the morning to continue drinking as much water as I can.

When I’m having a mid-morning snack that involves jams, it’s always a fun situation where I need to decide if I have a weakness for the blackcurrant berry, Mirabelle plums jam from France, black cherry jam from Switzerland or the red currant jelly from Canada.
For me, morning Nirvana is warm bread and butter with jam or a croissant with jam! Sometimes when I really don’t feel like preparing dinner when nothing else is in the fridge, I’ll pull out bread or a muffin, I’ll selected a jam flavor and put the kettle on the stove to prepare a warm cup of English tea. That combination is so soothing to me … especially on those hectic days.
When some of my friends find out how much I like jam I often get this question: but, isn’t jam a ‘danger food’ because it contains a lot of sugar? To which I usually answer: it’s all about the types of jam you choose to buy!« Previous Articles
