5 Stars Great book, but…
This book can be a great tool to lose weight, but you have to stick to it. I personally had a really hard time keeping up with it, but if you do, I think there’s no doubt you could lose weight, and keep it off.
4 Stars You Don’t Have Time to Overeat
This is a somewhat different sort of diet book. Beck reasonably advises the reader to stop seeking easy ways to lose weight and simply bite the bullets of self-control and nutritional awareness. Fortunately, she carefully delineates a methodology by which to do that. It is a fairly baroque system, with many instructions for making little index cards with motivational messages, reading them every day, filling out charts, keeping journals, etc., etc. I haven’t finished the book (but I am losing weight by a semi-adherence to the method, and I will finish it if that stops working.) However, I feel absolutely certain that if anyone follows Beck’s detailed instructions precisely,he or she will lose weight.

I read the forward and the first chapter and it felt like mostly a repeat of the previous book. There was new information. I actually returned it.
5 Stars Great Help for My Stinkin’ Thinkin’
Dr. Judith Beck has finally given me the skills I needed to be able to keep the weight off. I have dieted (& gained it back) many times. Couldn’t get a handle on how to keep it off. Dr. Beck through her books taught me how to consistently think like a thin person. It has made all the difference. This really was the “holy grail” I’d been searching for all my life. Not to say it’s easy. It just really works. It gives you very practical steps to take to teach youself to think like a thin person.
Let me say, though, that her other book (The Beck Diet Solution) helped me more than this one. This one contains the same “think thin” principles, but also delves into what to eat, exercise, etc. Overweight people already know more about what to eat than most. I highly recommend these books to anyone who stuggles with weight or wants to help someone they care about lose weight.
I now have skills to keep weight off which will carry my now thin body for the rest of my life.
5 Stars The Think Thin Motivation-for-Life Plan
You see so many books, so many diet plans, see so many TV ads for quick ways to lose weight. Just follow our plan for a few weeks and those pounds will melt away. Well, if it’s true and they do, they come right back. Losing weight is one thing, and it’s hard, but what’s harder is keeping it off. It’s one thing to give up the cheese and ice cream for a month or two, it’s another to give it up forever.
You need a plan if you want to keep it off. She continues promoting the benefits of cognitive therapy which helps people take charge of and change their eating habits and their exercise habits too. You learn how to develop Success Skills through five stages, each skill with a particular task. This is a plan for the rest of your life and it’s not that hard. You have to change your way of thinking, that’s for sure, but Dr. Beck can help you do that.
